USEFULL INFORMATION

  • Mount Athos is accessible by boat only
  • Women are not permitted
  • Tours via cruise ship that provide views of the monasteries can be arranged
  • For pilgrims with ambulatory handicaps, tours via cruise ship around the Athos peninsula can be organized
  • Pertinent historical information regarding each monastery will be provided
  • An ID Card or special passport issued by Mount Athos is required for entry
  • Accommodations at the monasteries depends on room availability
  • An expert guide will always be present for the entire duration of the tour visit
  • Photographs of the outer monastery surroundings and courtyards are permitted however NO photographs within the churches are permitted
  • Cell phones must be maintained in the “silent mode” at all times during your visit as well as during any meals with the monks
  • Pilgrims of all faiths are welcome to Mount Athos

ATTIRE

  • Long pants must be worn
  • Prohibited clothing includes shorts, “sweats”, flip-flops and athletic tee shirts
  • Should a specific pilgrim in a group prefer not to visit a selected site then alternative plans can be arranged
  • Transportation to and from Mount Athos is via ferry or speed boat
  • Transportation between monasteries is via minivan
